Minute Man National Historic Park, Massachusetts On our way to Boston we noticed a sign for Minuteman National Historic Park at Concord and Lexington. We are definitely glad we noticed it. The park is centered around the battle road from Lexington to Concord and is structured so that each pivotal site on April 19, 1775, along “Battle Road,” such as the North Bridge (site of the first British Casualties), Hartwell Tavern, Paul Revere’s capture site, etc. is accessible both by car, or by foot over a 9 mile trail, which by the way would have been a great run I we had more time. Since the 1960’s the Park Service has been slowly buying up all of the historical structures along the road in order to restore them to their 1775 states. Hartwell Tavern, which has been immaculately restored and is staffed by two actors playing the roles of a Revolutionary Era farmer and inn keeper. Mike even got to wear a real British Army “Redcoat” and backpack. If you ever get the chance definitely visit this site. There is something very powerful about walking the actual steps, and standing on the actual bridge where our country was finally forced to resort to violence for our freedom.
