Helena and Bozeman, Montana After we hiked out from our campsite, and took a few short waterfall hikes the next morning (we definitely recommend the St. Mary’s and Virginia Falls hikes – they were beautiful), we headed from Glacier to Yellowstone. Along the way, we made a few pit-stops – one in Helena, Montana, to check out the capital of that beautiful state, and one in Bozeman, Montana, because we were starving and we needed some food. While Helena has some charm, and of course, the capital, Bozeman was definitely our favorite of the two. We arrived in Bozeman on Wednesday evening, expecting the standard quiet Montana town, especially given that it was a Wednesday. As we drove towards the downtown area, you can imagine our surprise when we came upon a “drunken riot” as Mike likes to call it. The entire main street area in downtown Bozeman was closed off, and there were tons of people in the streets, drinking, eating, dancing, and carousing. There were even people spilling out from the local bars and restaurants, as well as all sorts of other “interesting” things happening. A local shopkeeper told us it was the “Taste of Bozeman” festival, which apparently kicks off the “Sweet Pea” festival that following weekend. Very fun! It sucked us in until hunger overtook us and we ended up at the McKenzie River Pizza Company for some pizza and beer. Not only was the food great, but our waiter was awesome (he let us sit down to eat even though the place had closed about five minutes before we got there). We liked the town and its vibe so much that for a brief moment we had thoughts of spending the rest of our lives (or at least the rest of the summer) there. Deciding to stick to the original plan, we pushed onto Yellowstone NP.
