Albuquerque, New Mexico Our Albuquerque stop was short, but fun. We stayed at one of our favorite spots of the trip – the Brittania and W.E. Mauger Estate B&B on 7th and Roma, between downtown and Old Town. It was built in the late 1800s, is on the Department of Interior’s National Register of Historic Places, and is really beautiful. Because it was a Sunday night, and the off season, we got a great deal on one of their rooms. We had our very own living room, bedroom, shower, and bathroom, all of which were really tastefully decorated and had lots of windows. It was great, and the free breakfast and all-you-can-eat chocolate chip cookies didn’t hurt either! As for Albuquerque, there are several cool areas we explored which you should hit, the first being Old Town, where we had a yummy Mexican dinner. Like Santa Fe, there is a big, beautiful plaza in the heart of this neighborhood, with an amazing adobe style church built in the 1600s, which is still in use, as well as locals selling jewelry along the perimeter. The other areas are Central Ave through downtown, and Central Ave through the University of New Mexico. Both offer lots of cool shops, restaurants, movie theaters, and bars, with the latter catering more to college kids (obviously), and the former offering more museums. The Historic Knob Hill District is also another cool neighborhood, with some interesting art deco buildings and structures. Also worth checking out, is the international hot air balloon festival held every October in Albuquerque. This festival sounds amazing. We apparently just missed it this year, as it was from October 2 to the 12, but hope to be back for it at some point down the road.
