Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Arriving in Philadelphia at about 2:30 p.m., we met Geoff Strong at Independence Square, where we spent a few hours checking out the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, Congress Hall, Constitutional Hall and Redding Square. Ruthie and Mike had both been to some of these sites when they were young (Ruthie on an 8th Grade Choir trip, and Mike on a 7th grade school trip), yet the historical significance was much more powerful as an adult. Standing in Independence Hall, in the very rooms where the Constitution, and Declaration of Independence were ratified and signed, as well as where Presidents Washington (2nd term) and Adams were inaugurated was powerful. The newly opened Constitutional Hall is also worth a visit for the life size replicas of the signers (and non signers) of the Constitution as they may have been standing during the signing. We never realized what a big guy President Washington was; 6-2 or 6-3 and a good 220. Definitely looked like an ass kicker. In contrast, Hamilton was maybe 5-4, 120, and fine featured as a mouse. That night, we had cocktails at Geoff an Alison’s (who were good enough to put us up – thank you!), and then ate a delicious Italian dinner with them and Kim Goyette, Ruthie’s friend from high school, at this little restaurant just around the corner from their place. The next morning, Ruthie had an early breakfast with Kim and her husband Michael, as well as their adorable boy, Jasper (3 years old), who although was very shy at first, finally warmed up. After a great run down the Schuylkill River Walk, we headed south to D.C.
