What started out as a half baked plan to simultaneously possibly meet Jay Stein on his last day in Costa Rica, and secure a town which was guaranteed to have the USC v. Oklahoma game, alsomst turned ugly from the get go. Once we arrived in town at 11 pm on Sturday night, we realized thta it was also New Years Day, which I guess we probably realized all day, but just didn't really think about the possible hotel vacancy ramafications. Anyhow, long story short, no rooms in town, 90 degrees, with 98% humidity, we wandered with 50 pound packs for an hour, were temporarily aided by a rather large, hairly and sweath American Ex-pat who let us in to use his phone, and then we got a $120 room at the Best western, essentially blowing 6-10 days worth of hotel budget in one night.
Obviously, we were a little bummed . . . that is until we walked into the room and were met by a television and a 50 degree air conditioned ambient air temperature. Its tough to describe in words, how nice that AC and TV seemed at that moment, but it was good. That $120 seemed like a deal real quick like, especially with the free breakfast and luxury swimming pool the next morning.
In any even, Jaco can best be described as a great place to go for a week long surfing bachelor party; when you were 22. Good waves, ton of bars, a surf shop every 10 feet, and many err . . . ladies of the night. But, not exactly what we were looking for in Costa Rica. At any rate, it was actually a pretty good time during the day lounging at the beach all day. The nights, on the other hand were a little sleepless in the budget sauna room we procured in an attempt to recoup our first night's losses at the Best Western. The room only became worse over the three days the proprietors refused to clean it or supply fresh towels. Finally, on the last nigbt we cracked and move across the street to a room with TV and AC. That night was one of Mike's favorites, maybe of his life as he watched SC whip the shit out of Oklahoma 55-19 in the comfort of his his hotel bed, in a 55 degree room with a 6 pack. Mmmm . . . AC, beer, and football. Fight On!
