Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania: Pittsburgh gets a bad rap! The weather is apparently pretty rough, but we’ve hit great weather twice now, and there is a ton to do. Last time we hit PNC for a Pirates game - great stadium by the way. This time, we landed in Sewickley, which is just outside of the downtown area. Not only is it a beautiful, charming, old neighborhood, it is also the childhood home of Fred Schroeder, as well as the new home of Cory Hirsch, Martha and Mc Kenna, who we hadn’t seen in way too long, and who were good enough to put us up for the night. The first night we had great Thai food at The Spice Island Tea House in Oakland, per the recommendation of Ruthie’s cousin Debbie, who joined us with her sons Oliver and Kai, and her mom (Ruthie’s Aunt) Hinda. After our feast, we had a few beers (at this place with tons and tons of different kinds of beer, including a raspberry beer) with Mike’s college buddy Greg Shumavon, whom he hadn’t seen in 8 years. Good times. The next day was a lazy morning with Cory, Martha and McKenna, and then an art festival and lunch with Auntie Hinda, Deb and the boys on Walnut Street in Shady Side. Very “upper crusty,” but with good character. It seemed like a nice area to live if you were our age. We’re off to Upstate New York.
